What a MEP Engineer Does
MEP engineers design the mechanical (HVAC), electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial building. They size equipment, lay out ductwork and piping, calculate electrical loads and service requirements, and coordinate with the architect and structural engineer. For specialized tenants (medical, food service, dialysis), MEP design is critical to meet operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Size HVAC equipment and design duct layouts
- Lay out electrical service, panels, and distribution
- Design plumbing, drainage, and water systems
- Coordinate with architect and structural engineer
- Meet energy code and sustainability requirements
- Produce CDs and support permit applications
When You Need One
After schematic design, in coordination with the architect. Typically part of the full A/E team on any commercial project.
How MaxLife Works With Them
MaxLife Development works with MEP engineers as part of the integrated A/E team on our development projects, especially for tenants requiring specialized building systems.
